About the Author

Dale Symons lives on the Mid-North Coast of NSW, Australia and enjoys walking her dog, Benji, on the beach and along bush tracks. She says, ‘Being immersed in nature enriches my soul and clears my mind to allow creative ideas to blossom.’

Dale’s passions are writing and art. She combines both in her SNAUR, The Magical Dragon, trilogy – SNAUR, A Mystical Magical Adventure, SNAUR, A Planet of Mysteries, SNAUR, Saving Two Worlds. As a teacher, Dale inspired her students, aged five to 15, to expand their imagination and write stories. Dale established and edited community papers in each town where she taught, ensuring a place for children to showcase their work. As a Community Arts Officer, Dale encouraged others to ignite their artistic and writing abilities. She studied Art at the University of Newcastle.

Encouraged by her best friend, she entered one of her paintings, Moira’s House, in the open section of The Blue Waters Art Exhibition at Lake Cargelligo, taking out first place. So, it was a natural choice to illustrate her books.

From age two, her children and grandchildren loved her making up fantasy and adventure stories, mostly about children interacting with animals and mythical creatures, such as dragons, wizards and the like. Dale began writing SNAUR, The Magical Dragon books when she retired. The members of her writing group enjoyed the SNAUR stories
and advised her to publish them.

Dale is a strong advocate for the safety of children and was Chairperson of Bravehearts Camden Haven in her local area. Dale wrote articles, designed brochures and posters and spoke at many schools and other venues about how Bravehearts could support the victims of sexual assault.

One of her life’s highlights was being invited on a painting trip with the famous Brushmen of The Bush when she had the privilege to spend a day with Jack Absolom and Hugh Schulz.

Later, she studied Art at Newcastle University and now enjoys drawing, painting and sculpture. She gained employment as a Community Arts Officer for the Midwest of NSW and now motivates others to pursue their creativity.

Her grandson, Zac, inspired her to write novels when, from age two, he would ask her to “read him a story”, which meant tell me a story. She has brought this to fruition in her SNAUR – The Magical Dragon series.

Dale says, ‘Children have enriched my life; I hope my books will enrich theirs.’
